May 29, 2008 Newton residents heard explosion-like sound Play video

(NECN: Waban, Mass.) - NECN's John Moroney is live at the scene of a two-train collision in the Waban neighborhood of Newton, Massachusetts.

Rescuers have been working for 2 hours trying to free a trapped female operator of the second train. She is said to have suffered very serious injuries.

The accident occurred on the D Line branch of the MBTA's Green Line.

A neighbor in the area says they are able to see more of the accident scene on TV than they are in person. The terrain shields the area by trees and fences.

One couple who has lived in the area for 50 years, says they are hardly aware of the trains running through their backyard anymore.
