| April 16, 2008 Students lie-in against gun violence

(NECN: Brian Burnell, New Haven, Conn.) - The Virginia Tech anniversary was commemorated across the nation Wednesday. Meanwhile, at one college campus in Connecticut, students held a quiet demonstration against gun violence.
The University of New Haven is one of the top criminal justice schools so it was an appropriate setting for this demonstration.
32 students, representing the 32 victims of the Virginia Tech shootings wore black, with the exception of ribbons around their necks in the VA Tech colors. The ribbons were made by relatives of the people killed one year ago.
They held what they called a lie-in. They lay down for three minutes -- the time they said it takes for someone to buy a gun at a gun show with no background check.
Leading the demonstration was Gisela Marin. Her daughter was supposed to begin her sophomore year at UNH in 2006, but she was killed in a random drive-by shooting.
While the students lay silent for three minutes, Gisela read the names of the 32 victims at Virginia Tech.
