(NECN) - In February of 2000, a huge fire destroyed an office building in Newton Massachusetts, killing five people.
Years later, there are still questions about what happened that day. That's the topic of NECN's upcoming documentary “The Forgotten Fire.”
On February 9th, 2000 a massive fire engulfs an office building along busy Route 9 in Newton Massachusetts. Five people died, in a blaze that never should have raged out of control...and never should have claimed lives.
State Fire Marshall Coan: "It is very hard for me to accept the fact that five people died, mid-day, a sunny afternoon, in a community that has a very good fire department with a robust mutual aid system." The Newton fire was unusual -- it is rare for people to die in office fires. This is one of only three multiple fatality, office building fires in this country in the past two decades.
“The Forgotten Fire” premieres on Sunday, June 22nd at 8 P.M. on NECN.
