October 25, 2008 USS New Hampshire joins fleet Play video

(NECN) - Thousands gathered in Maine and New Hampshire to celebrate the commissioning of the nation's newest submarine.

The USS New Hampshire officially joined the fleet on Saturday morning at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

More than three thousand people were invited to the ceremony.

An even larger crowd gathered across the river in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to watch the event on a jumbo TV screen.
