Wacky weather! Funnel cloud spotted in Barrington

(NECN: Latoyia Edwards, Barrington, RI) - As some areas brace for possible flooding today, in Southern New England, the focus is on cleaning up from yesterday's round of storms. There were reports of a funnel cloud in Barrington, Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service said trained weather spotters saw
funnel clouds above waters off Barrington and over East Providence
yesterday around 4 p.m. William Babcock, a weather service
meteorologist, said they have no reports that the clouds touched
down on land.

There were reports of trees down in Barrington and neighboring
Bristol, but police there say they have no reports that tornadoes
hit those towns.

National Grid spokesman David Graves said about 8,900 customers
had lost power in Rhode Island yesterday evening, and fewer than
1,000 had lost service in Massachusetts.

The weather service warns that torrential rain and lightning is
expected to continue today.
