August 29, 2008 Worcester resident helps to rebuild New Orleans Play video

(Katie Daly, NECN; Worcester) - A Worcester, Massachusetts woman has spent the past three years helping people in New Orleans rebuild their lives.

Honee Hess of Worcester looks at pictures of her childhood home in New Orleans. on the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina she clearly remembers the pain of watching images on TV of her hometown being destroyed.

Three months after Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Hess made a trip back to New Orleans to visit friends and family.

"Driving through the neighborhood that I know like the back of my hand -almost felt lost because everything was coated grey. Half the trees were dead I felt I was on an alien planet"

Hess has made dozens of trips back to New Orleans. Always hoping to see improvement--each time she's disappointed.

Hess says people have forgotten about reviving this broken city.
