| November 19, 2008 Recount begins in Franken, Coleman race
|
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - City and county workers across Minnesota
are beginning a laborious recount of more than 2.9 million ballots
in the tight U.S. Senate contest between incumbent Republican Norm
Coleman and Democrat Al Franken.
They have until Dec. 5 to complete the recount.
Dozens of observers were on hand Wednesday morning at a Ramsey
County government building near downtown St. Paul as 21 boxes of
ballots sealed with blue plastic fasteners were wheeled into a
recount room.
The count in populous Ramsey County - seat of the Minnesota
state Capitol - is likely to take several days.
The recount was triggered automatically because Coleman led
Franken by only 215 votes in unofficial results after the election.
