(NECN: Scot Yount) - President Obama is expected to defend his $3.6 trillion budget proposal in opening remarks of the prime time news conference. He will assure Americans that "we will recover from this recession."
In his second prime time news conference, the President will stress the need for confidence and patience in his economic recovery plan. He'll attempt to divert attention away from the recent outrage over executive bonuses, declaring signs of progress as his administration attacks the crisis "on all fronts."
Another sign that perception is key. Analysts insist that turning the economy around revolves around investor and consumer confidence. Several mainstream polls show the president's approval rating at 65 percent, but a new Zogby poll shows the president's approval rating has dropped to just 50 percent.
Still Zogby's numbers show a marked drop in confidence.
Media experts believe the president's problem is that he is much more popular than his policies.
So will the prime time event accomplish it's goal?
