Mayor Menino: "It was a glitch in the system"

(NECN) - We're exactly one week away from preliminary election day here in Boston.

Mayor Menino is facing a tough challenge from three opponents.

On Good Morning Live on Tuesday, Mayor Menino joined Mike Nikitas to talk about the upcoming election and an investigation into deleted emails.

Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin has ordered Boston officials to seize city hall computers used by a top aide to Mayor Tom Menino.

This follows word that the aide deleted hundreds of work E-mails before they were archived.

That could be a possible violation of public record laws.

Galvin has told the city to hire an independent expert to recover and restore the E-mails.

Tuesday morning, Mayor Menino said he will comply with the investigation.

The Mayor stated that he was surprised that there was an issue in his administration and spoke about moving forward.

He also mentioned how the deleted emails were a glitch in the system and how they have built in new upgrades so it will not happen again, "sometimes technology breaks down."

Mayor Menino spoke about creating the new economy for Massachusetts, Life Science.

Menino is seeking a record fifth term in office.

He'll face off against three challengers next Tuesday in a preliminary election.
