PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - General Treasurer Frank Caprio has a
nearly 3-to-1 fundraising advantage over his rival in the
Democratic primary for Rhode Island governor.
Caprio's campaign reported Monday raising about $200,000 during
the three-month period ending in September but refunded about
$65,000 in donations. After expenses, his total campaign account
stood at roughly $1.5 million.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch, also a Democrat, raised nearly
$114,000 during the same period, raising his balance to more than
$562,000 after subtracting expenses.
Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, who is exploring a run as an
independent, took in $70,000 and loaned his campaign $50,000. He
has about $200,000 in cash on hand.
Republican Rory Smith recently entered the race and is not
required to file until February.
