Menino holds off challenge from Flaherty

(NECN: Greg Wayland, Boston, Mass.) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino has been elected to a fifth term in office. He is already the city's longest-serving mayor. He beat challenger Michael Flaherty.

Menino defeated Flaherty, 57% to 42%.

Menino has already led the city for 16.5 years.

Flaherty and running mate Sam Yoon both gave up their City Council seats to run.

They did not make their immediate future plans known.

City Councilor John Tobin tells The Boston Herald he plans to run in 2013.
