Bill Clinton: Obama is the man for the job

(NECN: Denver) - His mission was simple.

"I am here first to support Barack Obama," said Bill Clinton. But it wasn't just to back Barack.

"And second," the former President said, "I'm here to warm up the crowd for Joe Biden. Though as you will soon see, he doesn't need any help from me. I love Joe Biden."

In a 20-minute speech punctuated with laughter and applause, President Clinton praised his wife, and heaped praise on a candidate he often criticized as not ready during the primary campaign.

"Last night, Hillary told us in no uncertain terms that she is going to everything she can to elect Barrack Obama. That makes two of us," Clinton said. "Actually, that makes 18 million of us. Because like hillary, I want all of you who supported her to support Barack Obama."

He credited Obama with demonstrating a "unique capacity to lead our diverse nation in an ever more interdependent world," and noted, "The long hard primary tested and strengthened him. And in his first persidential deicsion, the selection of a running mate, he hit it out of the park!" a line which drew massive applause as Clinton set the stage for Sen. Biden's acceptance

speech.
