(NECN/ABC) - Hillary Clinton says "This race isn't over yet." As expected, she won
big in West Virginia yesterday, more than two to one over Barack Obama. But
he still holds a commanding overall lead in the Democratic presidential race.
Clinton:
“I am so grateful for this overwhelming vote of confidence.”
So she will push on to the end.
Clinton:
“I am more determined than ever to carry on this campaign… until everyone
has had a chance to make their voices heard.”
Those voices will come from the five remaining Democratic primaries-- places
like Puerto Rico, Montana, and South Dakota. But even the best case
scenario wouldn't clinch a Clinton nomination.
Tad Devine, Democratic strategist:
“In many ways this is like a tree that falls in the forest. // I don't see
How, realistically, senator Clinton or the people around her can think that
They have a chance to win the nomination, given the numbers.”
One trouble spot for Obama: two in ten West Virginia voters say race was a
factor on their vote -- and barely half would support him in November.
Like Clinton, Obama is pushing forward too, focusing his attention on John
McCain.
He's taking his campaign to places like Missouri -- sure to be a
battleground state in the fall.
Obama:
“Just look at where he stands and you'll see that a vote for John McCain is a vote for George
Bush's third term.”
Despite his showing with white working class voters in West Virginia, Barack
Obama is still expected to wrap up the Democratic nomination by June third.
