Democrats prepare for important contests on Tuesday

(NECN) - Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are preparing for a big day Tuesday, with New England primaries, and contests in Texas, and Ohio where a couple of new polls on this Sunday show senator Clinton leading Obama in the Buckeye State.

Both candidates were there today, crisscrossing the state and fighting to set themselves apart.

Barack Obama was in Providence Rhode Island Saturday, making a stop at Rhode Island College where he spoke to a diverse crowd. Obama has strong support among young voters, and a new Brown University poll, also released this Sunday, shows Senator Obama gaining ground on Hillary Clinton's lead in Rhode Island.

Democratic political analyst Seth Gitell of Boston says Tuesday is a defining day with Vermont, Rhode Island, Texas and Ohio voters holding the cards.

"It's make or break for senator Clinton...but it is too for Obama...negative scrutiny."

Senator Clinton made a surprise appearance on Saturday night live this weekend, alongside Boston College graduate and SNL star Amy Poehler, who portrayed Mrs. Clinton. But analysts say the young, hip crowd is leaning heavily toward her rival.

“If she wins, it will be because the traditional voter, the elderly, senior citizens come out for her."

Financially, Barack Obama is laying it all on the table, outspending Hillary by almost two-to-one with advertising in Texas and Ohio. He's going for a knockout punch on Tuesday.
