| September 1, 2008 Gustav, Palin's daughter overshadow GOP convention
|
(NECN: Alison King, St. Paul, Minn.) - The Republican National Convention is underway in St. Paul, Minnesota, but with an abbreviated schedule. Hurricane Gustav forced the postponement of most events today.
President Bush, Vice President Cheney and many Gulf Coast delegates opted not to attend the first day of the convention.
Instead, first lady Laura Bush and Cindy McCain are expected to address the convention this evening. They are expected to discuss Gustav relief efforts and appeal for help. The first day of the convention will wrap up shortly there after.
It is still unclear how the rest of the week will play out.
Meanwhile, as the convention gets underway, all eyes are once again on McCain's choice for running mate, Sarah Palin. Today, she announced her 17-year-old, unmarried daughter is five months pregnant.
