Kennedys' to endorse Obama

(NECN) - Obama supporters are energized by his solid victory yesterday in South Carolina, and there is another shot coming for his campaign, in the backing of Senator Ted Kennedy who will apparently announce his endorsement of Obama tomorrow night.

Earlier this afternoon, Governor Deval Patrick and Senator John Kerry met with women who support Obama to try and rally their support and their effort to get other voters on board.

Massachusetts votes in the February 5th super Tuesday primary, along with 21 other states. The candidates themselves are spread thin between now and then . . . So in-state support and grassroots campaigning come at a premium.

Now, while Obama has the Governor and apparently both Massachusetts Senators behind him, Hillary Clinton leads in early Massachusetts primary polling and is backed by Boston mayor Tom Menino and the state's legislative leadership who are among 60 house members and 22 state senators that support Clinton.

When it comes down to super Tuesday, it may rest on which campaign foot soldiers can best convince their own constituents.

Also backing Obama today, Caroline Kennedy who wrote an op-ed in the New York times saying Obama would be a president like her father.

Hillary Clinton will be in Massachusetts tomorrow, where she will attend fundraising events in Springfield and in Boston.

NECN’s Lauren Collins was at an event put on by Obama supporters in Boston this morning.
