Local Democrats hope convention reunites party


(Katie Daly, NECN: Worcester, MA) - As the Democratic Convention kicks off Monday in Denver all eyes are on the Pepsi Center. Democratic National Committee chair will officially begin the convention by calling to order the party's move to nominate senator Barack Obama as the democrat's selection for the 2008 presidential election.

William Eddy has been anticipating this years DNC. In 2004 he played a leading role in senator John Kerry’s presidential campaign. Eddy worked on Kerry’s campaign committee and was part of the floor staff at the DNC held in Boston. Eddy says this week is senator Barack Obama’s opportunity to gain votes.

Eddy is hoping the convention serves to reunite the democratic party, he believes senator Hillary Clinton supporters will now turn to Obama.

Professor of political science at Holly cross, David Schefer says it will be a challenge for Obama to gain support at the convention.

Obama does have a philosophy he has rhetoric Shaeffer does however believe Obama’s running mate, senator Joe Biden will make up for Obama’s weaknesses.

He has been in the senate for almost 40 years.
