Obama: U.S. military can't be in Iraq forever

(NECN: Amman, Jordan) - "There remains mistrust between Sunni tribal leaders and government officials in the Anbar region and the central government. Part of executing a lasting stability in Iraq remains reconciling those two groups," said Barack Obama in a speech Tuesday in Amman, Jordan.

"The U.S. government can't be there forever. The U.S. military can't be there forever," said the Democratic presidential candidate after a trip to Afghanistan and Iraq.

"My job as potential commander-in-chief extends beyond Iraq," said Obama.

Obama says he is extremely impressed by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama no longer wants U.S. troops in combat operations in Iraq.

Obama says the Israelis and Palestinians both need to make compromises.
