| July 23, 2008 Obama: 'Will not wait' to get Mideast process moving

(NECN: Sderot, Israel) - When asked about the Mideast peace process, Barack Obama says, "Any American president can rest assured that Israel won't be pressured into something that is going to put them at risk because they have an obligation to their people. My job, if I am the president, is not to dictate to either of the parties what this deal should be, but hopefully to facilitate and promote a meaningful, realistic, pragmatic, concrete strategy for achieving these goals."
Obama spoke at a press conference in Sderot, near the Gaza border Wednesday. The city has been a frequent target of rocket attacks from Palestinian militants.
"I will not wait until a few years into my term, or my second term if I'm elected, in order to get the process moving. We have a window right now that needs to be taken advantage of," said the Democratic presidential candidate.
