Obama catching up on Clinton's super-delegate count

(NECN) - Barack Obama has nearly erased Hillary Clinton's super-delegate lead after a week of big gains.

The Illinois Senator picked up the backing of 9 super-delegates on Friday, putting Senator Clinton just 1 1/2 super-delegates ahead, according to an Associated Press count.

Both candidates have been campaigning in Oregon ahead of the state's May 20th primaries. Already Obama has turned his attention to John McCain while Clinton remains focused on the Democratic race.

Meanwhile, John McCain has been focusing his attention on New Jersey, where he could face a tough battle in the general election.

A recent Monmouth University poll suggests either Obama or Clinton would beat him in New Jersey in November.
