(NECN: Watertown, South Dakota) - Democratic presidential contender, Senator Barack Obama, held a town hall meeting in Watertown, South Dakota Friday. He called Bush's comments on appeasement "exactly the kind of appalling attack that's divided our country and alienates us from the rest of the world."
Obama is criticizing Republican rival John McCain and the president for "dishonest and divisive" attacks in hinting that the Democratic presidential candidate would appease terrorists.
"I want to be perfect clear with George Bush and John McCain...if they want to have a debate about protecting the United States of America, that is a debate that I am happy to have any time, any place and that is a debate I will win," said Obama.
Obama told a town hall meeting, "That's the kind of hypocrisy that we've been seeing in our foreign policy, the kind of fear-peddling, fear mongering that has prevented us from actually making us safer." "They're trying to fool you. They're trying to scare you," said Obama.
Obama said McCain had a "naive and irresponsible belief that tough talk from Washington will somehow cause Iran to give up it's nuclear program and support for terrorism."
"I'm running for president to change course, not to continue George Bush's course," said Obama.
