| August 21, 2008 Obama or McCain? It's a toss up.

(NECN: Greg Wayland) - On the road to the White House, John McCain is closing in on Barack Obama. Two national polls released today show McCain has drawn almost even with his Democratic rival.
Day two in the swing state of Virginia, and Barack Obama was campaigning with Governor Tim Kaine, a man said to be on his short list of candidates. This, at a time when two new polls show McCain gaining on Obama. A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll and a New York Times/CBS poll both put Obama at 45% and McCain at 42%.
The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll also shows 50% of voters confident in McCain's ability to become commander-in-chief, compared to only 39% sharing that confidence in Obama.
But in Virginia, Obama found a weapon for fighting back. With many voters concerned about the economy, Obama pounded on McCain's statement Thursday that being rich meant you had to earn $5 million a year and he wasn't sure how many houses he and his wife have.
In a tart response to Obama's criticism, McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers asked, does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from a vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon, really want to get into a debate about houses?
But in Virginia, Obama was staying on the attack.
