R.I. Sen. Reed: Obama will be superb commander-in-chief

(NECN: Denver, Colo.) - Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama received a strong endorsement froom Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention. Reed, a former paratrooper, said Obama would make a "superb Commander-in-Chief", after watching Obama during his visit to Iraq earlier this year.

Reed, who also serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he was struck by "the astounding level of admiration and enthusiasm for Sen. Obama. Everywhere we went, Obama was surrounded by soldiers, sailors, airment and Marines who wanted to shake his hand."

"Our men and women in uniform," Reed quipped, "...know a leader when they see one."
