(Josh McElveen, NECN: Durham, N.C.) - Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy is recovering from brain surgery at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
Doctors says the 3.5 hour operation on a cancerous brain tumor was a success.
Kennedy was awake during part of the procedure.
Doctors say he should not experience any permanent neurological effects.
He is expected to remain in the North Carolina hospital for about a week. Then, he will return to Massachusetts for chemotherapy and radiation.
