(NECN) - Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy is undergoing surgery for his brain tumor on Monday morning.
According to a statement from Kennedy's office, the 76 year old Senator is being treated by Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina.
The Boston Globe reports Doctors at Duke are conducting several clinical trials on malignant Glioma, the type of tumor Kennedy has been diagnosed with.
The surgery is expected to take a total of five to six hours and Kennedy is expected to remain at Duke for about a week.
After that, Kennedy will return to Boston to begin radiation and chemotherapy at Mass General.
