| November 3, 2008 Volunteers make final push before Election Day

(Amy Sinclair, NECN) - You've listened to the candidates and the relentless political ads, but as a voter, you are not off the hook yet. An army of volunteers energized by presidential politics is coming after you in this final push before Election Day.
If you're registered to vote in the state of Maine, a volunteer has got your name and number..
"I’m Pete with the republican party with a couple of real quick questions"
They've got your address too.
'We’re just wondering if you've made your mind up yet...
With less than 24 hours to go in campaign 2008, volunteers are everywhere trying to help their candidate, whether it's senator Obama or senator McCain to become the next president.
Rebecca: "We have launched the biggest get out the vote operation in Maine history...we have doubled the number of field offices to 74 state wide."
Both democrats and republicans have thousands of volunteers making this final push with Maine’s 942,000 registered voters because in this rural state personal contact works.
Jen: "it's not just the TV ads or what pundits says it's neighbors and what the candidates are saying about the issues."
And because passions for the presidential candidates are running so high, there's no shortage of helpers.
Pete: "this country means a lot to me and national security is an important issue."
For Pete, a self-employed carpenter, McCain’s military and political experience are critical.
Pete: "to me I really don't believe Obama has experience to lead the free world."
Obama supporters are equally convinced their future is safer in Obama’s hands.
Obama: "the war is huge and the economy is really scary for us in college wondering where we'll be in four years.:
The stakes are so high, they say it's worth it to leave work, college, and grab the kids if necessary to try and get out the vote.
No matter who ends up in the white house it's a victory for this political process this election has turned volunteers into activists and that could last long after the last ballot is counted.
