Voters cast ballots in West Virginia

(NECN/ABC) - A steady stream of voters cast their ballots this morning in West Virginia, although there is little doubt about the outcome.

Sen. Clinton's supporters realize that she faces an almost impossible fight to secure the Democratic nomination. Barack Obama leads her in delegates, superdelegates, states won, and with her campaign now $20 million in debt, even a big win in West Virginia today may not be enough.

Some say more victories like today's expected double-digit win in West Virginia will strengthen the argument that she should be Obama's running mate. And according to an ABC News Washington Post poll, nearly 40% of Democrats would like to see that happen.

All eyes were on the Senate Floor today as both Senators were there to vote. Obama approached Clinton for a brief but polite chat. Certainly not long enough to involve details of a joint ticket. But Obama's campaign has essentially turned away from the primary fight with Clinton to the general election battle with John McCain.

ABC's Jan Crawford Greenburg reports from Washington.
