| November 3, 2008 Which candidate is more "bearable"?
|
(Anya Huneke, NECN: Shelburne, VT) - The presidential and vice-presidential candidates have provided plenty of fodder for late night talk show hosts. As well as for one Vermont company- which is finding that politics can be 'beary' profitable.
With the presidential election upon us, the candidates are making their final campaign stops... Taking their last digs at their opponents... and things are really starting to get... hairy, literally.
At least at the Vermont teddy bear company in Shelburne, Vermont- where four fur-faced bear versions of the hopefuls are duking it out for sales.
"This is our McCain bear with the spiffy business suit and McCain 2008 button..."
John McCain, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden are among the bear choices this fall-- a first for Vermont teddy bear, as far as political lines go...
Wendy Duval\VT Teddy Bear "We've never actually made a bear to represent the official U.S. candidates. But it's been such a historical race this year, we thought what a great opportunity to have something fun."
It started with Obama and McCain... McCain- with white fur, in a business suit and tie... And Obama- with darker fur and a more dressed-down ensemble.
"Earlier on in the race we saw Obama a lot- casual, unbuttoned shirt, rolled-up sleeves.">
Then, just in time for the V.P. debate, came their running mates- a grey-haired Biden and a red-suited Palin. Rimless glasses and all.
The
three male candidates all sell for $109.95... but Sarah Palin costs $15 more. That's because of all of her accessories- including a tiara, glasses, a hockey stick, and a briefcase- filled with a baby bottle and, of course, lipstick."
And despite her higher price tag and late entry .. Palin is giving Obama a run for his 'honey'...
She’s made 132 sales to his 177... McCain is in third with 61... and Biden- a solid last. Wendy "He's bringing up the rear at 25."
Roy Barnard, however, was an instant Biden bear fan...
Roy "I'm a more casual guy."
His wife, Virginia, stuck with him on the democratic ticket-- for fashion reasons...
Virginia "I'd probably get Obama- I like that outfit."
Even though she thought the palin bear was the best replica.
Virginia "That's all she ever has on is red."
The candidates soon will learn their fate... But these bears will stick around after the final vote is cast--
Perhaps at a discounted price, like the Hillary Clinton bear of political yesteryear.
Wendy "When Hillary was no longer in the presidential race, we put her on sale."
Two more could follow in her paw prints as the four finalists claw their way to the finish.
