| November 19, 2008 On the web: Google's amazing look at 'Life'
|
(NECN: Ted McEnroe) - Want to lose a day of work? Miss some deadlines? Then head over to Google Images and start surfing the new collection of images from Life magazine, now available for your perusal at images.google.com.
The archive is truly remarkable. Google says there are 2 million images available now - and there will be 10 million in all, most of which have never been seen in public. Wandering through the archive is like a trip back in time, flipping through the photos of icons like Alfred Eisenstadt, Robert Capa and Margaret Bourke-White.
Doing an image search and including "source:life" in the search will limit the image search to just the Life archives. And the photos you get are remarkable not just for their quantity, but their quality - many of the photos are massive in their size - and on a good monitor, they pop off the screen.
And if you fall in love with any and just have to have them? You can buy framed images through a link to qoop.com.
The Google link is part of the upcoming relaunch of Life as an online entity - expected sometime in the coming months at http://www.life.com. And if you're a blogger who wants to use these cool images, Life's CEO tells the blog "Photo District News" that you won't be getting hunted down by their copyright attorneys. (If you start producing a line of posters - you're on your own).
It's a great site and a wonderful archive to surf - just don't try it when you have a deadline at hand.
