Convenience with a conscience

(NECN: Lauren Collins, Manchester, NH) - A new gas station in Dover, New Hampshire is almost entirely green from what's in the pump to what's inside the store.

The owners of the Simply Green store have been in the bio-diesel and bio-heat business for the last two years, but until now have had only commercial and residential clients. Now, Simply Green has a retail location, a gas station, that sells standard fuel, which already contains 10% ethanol and bio-diesel for personal vehicles. There are blends of five and 20% bio-fuel which are not only cleaner burning, but more fuel efficient as well.

But, greener gas isn't the only environmentally-friendly component to the store. The once-shuttered Sunoco station has been rehabbed using as many reused or renewable materials as possible, like bamboo floors and LED light bulbs.

And, most of the convenience store items inside, from chips and soda to coffee and sandwiches, are all natural and come from producers based within a 100 mile radius of Dover. Customers can also get information about Simply Green's bio-heat, which is standard number two home heating oil blended with recycled restaurant grease.

The owner of Simply Green, who proudly considers himself a lifelong environmentalist, says the motivation behind the "congreenience" store is to show how easy it is to live and drive green.

And, while there are other retail outlets that offer bio-diesel at the pump, there are not any in New Hampshire that have the store concept to go along with it.
