Mammogram still breast cancer screening test of choice

(NECN) - People are pretty familiar with breast imaging radiology, the technology and mammograms used to detect breast cancer early, but there is some new stuff out there.

Ultrasound is used in addition to mammography when it's necessary. Doctors are also using MRI and molecular imaging.

The mammogram is still the standard and screening test of choice, and the cheapest. Women should start having a mammogram at the age of 40, unless they are high risk -- they should have their tests earlier.

Dr. Elaine Iuanow of the Museum of Science in Boston joins NECN for this "Sci-Tech Today" segment.
