| June 22, 2009 Tools to keep up with Iran
|
(NECN: Ted McEnroe) - As the post-election crisis in Iran enters its second full week, keeping up with the volume of what's going on can be a challenge. I'm hoping the following resources will help you keep up, catch up and get your fill of the latest from the continuing protests.
If you are an NECN Twitter fan, you probably know that we are using Tweetgrid to give you a one-stop shop for following all the NECN staff who are on Twitter. We've now set up a second grid to follow four of the biggest search terms for following events from Iran: #iranelection, Tehran, Mousavi and #iranrevolution (we may modify the search terms we are checking as time goes on).
There are also a number of bloggers doing yeoman's work gathering the latest social media efforts to capture what is happening in Tehran - by liveblogging events. Liveblogging is basically the creation of a single post that is updated as events warrant. Now that we are in Day 10 of the election and aftermath, those posts are getting massive. But if you have been away from the computer for awhile, and want to catch up, the livebloggers are a great source for curated information about what has been happening. Among the ones I scan for a quick checkup:
Nico Pitney at the Huffington Post
Andrew
Sullivan at the Atlantic
The Lede at NYTimes.com
And
Memeorandum - not a liveblog, but a good resource for Iran info from across the political spectrum (usually)
But wait, there's more!
The folks at "The Big Picture" blog at Boston.com are continuing to update that blog with new pictures as they become available. There are also some gorgeous non-Iran related groups if you need a break from the action.
If you have fallen behind and need the highlights of the past few days, Ben Parr at Mashable has created a timeline of the revolt, starting with the elections on June 12.
And Robin Sloan from Current TV is taking a different tack to try to reduce the information overload. He's built a super-filtered Twitter stream using only sources that have been verified as sharing valuable and more accurate information.
And a reminder - our webcast on "Elder Care and Estate Planning" is coming up Tuesday at 12:30pm. For more information and to register for the free event, visit our "Ask the Experts" page. We're asking people to register so we know how big an audience we have on hand - so we can make sure we get as many people's questions answered as possible.
