Twitter: now with @live @phonecalls

(NECN: Ted McEnroe) - I talked briefly yesterday about Facebook working to allow people to "voice chat" on that social network. Today, Twitter gets into the voice side of things. A new application from the company Jajah will go into beta today, allowing you to make a phone call to another Twitter user without even needing to know their phone number. Jajah currently operates in the cheap international calls space, and as reported by Mashable, the system will let Twitter users call other users by simply typing in @call @username. Of course, both people involved will have to set themselves up with Jajah, so if getting calls via Twitter doesn't make you happy, you don't have to. Mashable says the way it works is that if you tweet to someone from your device to theirs, your phones will ring and presto, you'll be connected. There's also an explainer video on YouTube. But in the spirit of Twitter (and to limit Jajah's costs, no doubt), calls are limited to two minutes. Speaking of Twitter - people wonder "How does Twitter make money?" Well, so far they haven't figured out how to get money from users, but they have the attention of venture capitalists. The company is in the process of a million fundraising effort - and Michael Arrington at TechCrunch reports the company has pegged its current valuation at (NECN: Ted McEnroe) - I talked briefly yesterday about Facebook working to allow people to "voice chat" on that social network.
