(NECN) - The winner of the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT prize was announced Wednesday.

He is a chemist and polymer expert.

Dr. Joseph Desimone is recognized for developing groundbreaking solutions in green manufacturing, as well as promising applications in gene therapy, drug delivery and medical devices.

Dr. Desimone and the Executive Director of the Lemelson-MIT program, Joshua Schuler joins NECN's Chet Curtis.
