(NECN) - On this segment of Sci-Tech from the Museum of Science Boston, we discuss surviving on one meal a day. Over 800 million people get most of their daily calories by eating a certain vegetable, but there are drawbacks.

Tim Kardatzke explains how the Gates Foundation is helping to genetically engineer the cassava root, so to amp up the nutrients it provides. Also the plant naturally produces cyanide, but steps are being taken to quiet its effects.
