| December 12, 2008 Red Sox unveil 'new' uniforms, logo

(NECN) - Just in time for the holiday season, the Boston Red Sox showed Red Sox Nation its new main logo, as well as the new road uniforms that the team will don.
The team will now use the "Hanging Sox" as its main logo, replacing the Sox inside the circle. The team actually used the "Hanging Sox" as its primary logo in the past.
As for the jerseys, the team will wear gray jerseys with the word "Boston" in blue lettering. The numbers and names on the back of the jerseys will also be blue. This is modeled after the road jerseys worn by the Sox in the 1980s.
How did this change come about, you ask?
"The origin of this was Turn Back the Clock Day in June of '07 in San Diego," Red Sox COO Mike Dee told the crowd at Game On in Boston. "Everybody thought the gray was a bluer gray because of the blue lettering. The bordering makes the same gray look bluer. Basically, we've taken what was the red 'BOSTON' on the front and replaced that with a blue 'BOSTON.'"
The team also unveiled a new alternate road jersey, which features a blue top with red numbers and lettering. Prior to this, the Red Sox only sported a home alternate -- the red top with blue numbers and lettering.
For the record, Manager Terry Francona is a fan of the change.
"I love them," Francona said. "About two years ago we wore them in Interleague one day on throwback night. I'm a fan. They need to look at it, because this may be the last time they see me wearing it."
