| January 1, 2009 Suitors knocking on Pioli's door

(NECN) - The New England Patriots could lose Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli, who helped put together the three championship teams.
The Cleveland Browns have received permission to speak with Pioli, and the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly asked for the to talk with him, as well.
But it might not be only Pioli who could be on his way out. Browns owner Randy Lerner said Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is on his list of candidates to succeed recently fired head coach Romeo Crennel.
If Pioli and McDaniels were to move along as a sort of package deal, it would make some sense. Pioli practices systemic specific scouting, which places an importance on knowing which players fit a coach's system. Having worked with McDaniels in New England, there is reason to believe a certain level of familiarity would carry over.
