| January 4, 2009 Browns don't want Pioli? Are they nuts?

(NECN) - Mike Giardi welcomes Pete Brock into the NECN studio for some good old fashioned NFL Hot Stove talk. On the slate for this discussion is Patriots vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli, who has interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and is scheduled to talk with the Kansas City Chiefs about vacancies in their respective front offices.
Reports surfaced after the Cleveland interview that Randy Lerner, the team's owner, was not keen on giving Pioli the power he requested. Giardi and Brock have strong feelings toward this report.
"What's been the best organization the past ten years? The New England Patriots," Giardi said. "Who else has done well? Bill Parcells. Pioli learned from both of those people and the one voice, one control -- that's the way it's got to be."
"Well, it boils down to ego I think. And some of these owners have such a large ego, they think that they could run it. They're business men, they think they could run it. Somebody ought to grab them by the lapels and say, 'Are you kidding me?'," Brock said. "Why wouldn't you bring Pioli in and say, 'Here's the keys to the Kingdom and make it work'."
