January 4, 2009 Half court buzzer beater lifts Newton North Play video

(NECN) - What beats a crosstown matchup between Newton North and Newton South? Why, a buzzer beater to win the game in this high school girls basketball battle.

With just two seconds remaining in the game, Newton North trailed by two points. Senior Hallie Vitagliano launched a half court prayer as time expired.

The shot went in, and she was mobbed on the floor by her teammates. The shot lifted Newton North to a 47-46 win.

"I knew we had two seconds left. I shot it and I obviously hoped it went in," Vitagliano said. "When I saw it swish in it was amazing. I ran over to my team because it was a team win all the way."
