Police: McNair victim of homicide, Kazemi unclear

(NECN: Nashville, Tenn.) - Nashville Police called the shooting death of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair a homicide, but did not reach a conclusion about the death of Sahel Kazemi, 20, found with him.

"As a result of the autopsies, we know that Steve McNair was shot four times -- twice in the head and twice in the chest. Ms. Kazemi was shot one time in the head," Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said on Sunday. "At the scene, a semi-automatic pistol was recovered from underneath Ms. Kazemi's body."

"While it is clear that Steve McNair's death is a homicide, as the result of being shot four times, the police department is not yet classifying Ms. Kazemi's death," Aaron said. "She does have a single gunshot wound to the side of the head, but there is more investigation required."

Part of that investigation, Aaron said, included ballistics testing and laboratory work.

McNair and Kazemi were shot in the early morning hours on Saturday, well before being discovered in the afternoon, according to Aaron. He also said the two had been dating.

"From what we've learned from friends, they apparently were involved in a dating relationship over the past several months," Aaron said.

Witnesses told police that McNair visited two bars on Friday night and into the early morning hours of Saturday, before making it to the condominium where he was shot. Aaron said there were no signs of forced entry at the scene of the shootings.
