| November 1, 2009 Bruins struggle to find offensive firepower
|
(NECN) - The Boston Bruins struggled offensively this week, scoring just one goal over a three-game span.
This slump comes at the wrong time, as recently traded winger Phil Kessel, Boston's top goal scorer a season ago with 36, may make his on-ice debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs as early as Tuesday. But it is not simply a slump. Boston's offense has struggled to find consistent scoring from game-to-game all season long -- putting up 7 against Carolina, then 1 five days later against Anaheim.
Zdeno Chara, last season's Norris Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenseman, has yet to score a goal. He potted 19 in 2008-2009.
It's not that the Bruins are playing poorly -- just that they cannot seem to find a way to put the puck in the net. And, of course, the team is without top playmaker Marc Savard and bruising winger Milan Lucic.
In the last ever Sports Late Night interview, Mike Giardi and Joe Haggerty discuss the team's offensive woes in the video player above.
