(NECN/ESPN: Bronx, N.Y.) - The New York Yankees regained their place at the top of the baseball world Wednesday night, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 of the World Series, claiming the organization's 27th title.
It was a return to glory for longtime Yankees Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Petitte and Jorge Posada. But the victorious taste of champaign was a first Alex Rodriguez and newcomers Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher, to name a few.
"It feels great," Rodriguez said. "I couldn't be more proud of 25 guys, coaching staff and an organization -- it takes everybody."
Rodriguez said that it was worth everything he went through over the past year, from his separation from his wife to the admission that he took performance enhancing drugs in the past.
"I feel very blessed. I feel so lucky to be part of their fifth championship and my first. It's an honor to play with these guys," Teixeira said.
