| September 27, 2008 Armstrong comeback may stall due to re-entry rules
|
VARESE, Italy (AP) - Cycling's governing body says Lance Armstrong may not be able to start his comeback at the Tour Down Under in January because of anti-doping re-entry rules.
Riders coming out of retirement need to be in the UCI's anti-doping program for six months before being allowed to race.
The UCI will discuss with the U.S anti-doping agency whether Armstrong can meet that requirement. The UCI said it will decide next week.
UCI president Pat McQuaid said on Saturday that "the rules must be respected." The Tour Down Under is set for Jan. 20-25 in Australia.
