Deaf football player proves dreams do come true

(NECN/WXOW) - More than 600 high school football players are attending camp at Winona State this week, hoping to improve their game for the upcoming season. While the players go to camp to learn something new, one young man from Iowa Falls is doing a little teaching as well.

16-year-old lineman Keith Woody is totally deaf in his right ear, and hears just a few, loud sounds in his left. He joined the Cadet's program three years ago as an eighth-grader. The first and only deaf player on the team, the head coach learned he could coach Keith just like any other player.

At practice, Keith's interpreter stands right on the field, signing plays and other instructions.

During a game, she signs from the sideline.

When a play is called from the huddle, Keith relies on reading his teammate's lips.

Reporter Amy DuPont has the story.
