(NECN) - The Boston Red Sox blanked the Chicago White Sox 8-0 Friday night at Fenway Park.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (16-2) allowed only two hits over a scoreless eight innings, while striking out 7. Javier Vazques (10-12) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits.
Dustin Pedroia went 4-4 with three runs. Jason Bay was 1-5 but had a clutch bases clearing double in the sixth.
The Red Sox remain four games back in the AL east and three games up on the Twins in the AL Wild Card race.
The Red Sox returned home and will play 19 of their remaining 28 games at Fenway Park, the most home games of any team. They have
the third best home record in the majors, and already lead the AL wild-card race.
