(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - Prior to introducing jason bay as the newest member of the Boston Red Sox, Theo Epstein and Terry Francona met the media, and for the first time, Frnacona acknowledged that his team had lost its focus before the trade of Manny Ramirez. But he said the team was already looking ahead in a Friday afternoon team meeting.
"We discussed how we're going to go forward," Francona said of the meeting. "I thought it was an exciting time to stand in fromt of your players and feel like that."
General Manager Theo Epstein said the Sox have no second thoughts about the trade, because they put a lot of thought into getting Jason Bay. "We weren't jsut going to make a trade for the sake of making a trade," Epstein said. "We thought long and hard about it and dec it was the right thing to do."
Francona said that while Bay is hitting fifth behind Mike Lowell tonight against the Oakland A's, that lineup could change in the coming weeks, as the Sox seek the right order. And he said he hopes the trade works out well for Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen, who were sent to Pittsburgh in the deal, calling the move a great opportunity for both players.
