Goodell: Play by the rules

(NECN: New York) - NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he learned nothing new about the Spygate scandal after meeting with former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh on Tuesday.

When asked if it was worth the three and a half month wait to speak with Matt Walsh, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said: "I think this is important -- you are dealing with the integrity of the NFL."

"I want to know the facts," said Goodell.

"The Jets alerted the NFL that there may be somebody over there who's inappropriately taping signals of coaches and our personnel went over and apprehended the individual, apprehended the equipment and the tape and took the camera and the tape into our office," said Goodell. "I credit our staff for being aggressive."

The investigation began after the NFL confiscated tapes from a Patriots employee who recorded the New York Jets' defensive signals from the sideline during the 2007 opener. New England coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000, while the team was fined $250,000 and forced to forfeit its 2008 first-round draft choice.
