| February 27, 2008 Meet the Prez: Varitek, Lowell comment after White House visit

(NECN) - The Captain had been there before. But for the World Series MVP, it was his first trip to the White House. Either way, it's a trip that never gets old.
Jason Varitek and Mike Lowell were among the players who talked to the press after their trip to the White House today to meet President Bush. Both men said the event was an honor and a privilege, and praised President Bush, a former owner of the Texas Rangers, for his humor and knowledge of the game.
Afterwards, the team members headed to Walter Reed Army Medical Center to visit wounded veterans, an experience that Varitek said had its own special tone. "It's a very humbling experience," said Varitek, "It really draws your attention back to what matters, what these people have gone through."
