| August 21, 2008 Mike Schmidt urges men to cover all bases when it comes to health
|
(NECN) - He is best known for leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a World Series victory back in 1980, but third base Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt also wants to be known for educating men who might be too embarrassed to get help for a condition that he has learned to manage himself.
Schmidt is part of a campaign awareness group called "BPH Game Plan Starts With You," that goes around the country, educating men about Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
By the age of 55, Schmidt found urination to be a problem in his life. He went too often, couldn't empty his bladder and got up often in the middle of the night to go. Long car rides and airplane rides were also a problem that interfered with his daily life.
Schmidt went to see a urologist and was prescribed to UROXATRAL. His urination problems are now under control and he wants to educate men all over the country.
Schmidt was a third baseman with the Phillies from 1972-1989. He had 548 career homeruns, he is a three-time NL MVP and 12-time NL All-Star.
