Nelson: Mayo has good opportunity to be starter

(NECN) - So the Patriots didn't exactly shine in the Patriots preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. The back up quarterbacks failed their first test, and the same could be said for wide receiver Chad Jackson.

However, rookie Jerod Mayo was a big hit in his New England debut. The linebacker recorded three tackles

Former Patriots linebacker Steve Nelson breaks down Mayo's performance, and the rest of the game in Friday's Prospective.

Nelson believes that Mayo has the best chance out of all the rookies to break into a starters role this season. He was impressed with Mayo's performance against the Ravens, and is confident he will be able to make big plays, because of his instincts. Mayo's transition from college to pro should go smoothly given all of the veteran talent around him.
